Honoring our local Veterans

In honor of Veterans Day, Mrs. Hearne’s 8th-grade classes have taken time to show their appreciation to local heroes in a meaningful way. Each student wrote a personal letter addressed “To A Veteran” to express their gratitude for the sacrifices and service of the men and women who have served our country. The letters will be displayed at the table settings during the annual Veterans Day Breakfast and Program.

The breakfast will begin at 8:00 AM on Wednesday, November 12th in the Tinora Performing Arts Center Lobby, followed by the Veterans Day Program at 8:30 AM in the Tinora Performing Arts Center Auditorium.

Many students shared that the project had a personal connection for them.

“My grandpa served in the Navy,” said Jaedyn Byers. “Writing a letter to a veteran is important. It’s nice to let them know we care about what they did. Writing a letter like this can help veterans feel that their service truly mattered..”

“My dad served in the Army,” shared Caroline Mack. “In my letter I wanted to write, ‘I’ll never understand what you went through, but I do recognize and appreciate you.’ I think that’s very important.”

Each student carefully placed an American flag sticker on their envelope as a finishing touch, a small but meaningful symbol of pride and gratitude.

Mrs. Hearne shared how proud she is of her students for taking this opportunity to connect with and honor those who have served. Their words of appreciation will undoubtedly help make this year’s Veterans Day celebration even more special for the honored guests.
