Over spring break, a group of Tinora students had the amazing opportunity to travel to Germany. They visited some incredible cities including Berlin, Dresden, Munich, Rothenburg, and Heidelberg, getting a firsthand look at the culture, history, and everyday life of the country.
The trip was full of unforgettable experiences. One of the highlights was visiting the castle that inspired Sleeping Beauty’s castle in Disneyland. With snow covering the Alps that day, it looked like something straight out of a fairy tale. The group also visited a concentration camp, a heavier part of history that the students approached with respect, leaving with a deeper understanding of Germany’s past.
Dresden quickly became a favorite city. Students loved exploring the beautiful architecture, learning about life during medieval times, WWII, and East German occupation, and even seeing an original Raphael painting in the museum. The quiet streets and rich history made a big impression.
The students also had time to practice their German. Each afternoon they had 2 to 3 hours of free time to grab lunch, explore museums, or shop. During that time, they had to navigate the world on their own, speaking German and interacting with locals. Many said it was a proud and confidence-boosting experience.
Every day brought something new. Students noticed that Germans spend a lot of time outside, walking, enjoying coffee, and eating outdoors, rain or shine. And yes, there were some funny moments too. A few language mix-ups made for some laughs, and one student made headlines with ten nosebleeds over the course of the trip, a running joke the whole group could not stop laughing about.
Overall, this trip gave students independence, new friendships, and memories they will never forget. Many are already dreaming of going back to Germany for more travel and study. It was a trip full of learning, adventure, and fun, and it is safe to say it has sparked a lifelong love of travel for many of them.
